American International Group Inc (AIG) Dividends

GoodMoat Analysis

Based on data as of March 26, 2026

AIG's dividend profile is fundamentally sound, supported by a strong balance sheet and robust free cash flow, but faces headwinds from declining revenue. The current 2.4% yield is modest for the sector, and while the payout is well-covered, dividend growth is not currently supported by top-line expansion.

Read full analysis
For an income-focused value investor, AIG's dividend sustainability is anchored by its strong balance sheet and free cash flow generation, both key Quality Indicators in the framework. The company's debt-to-equity ratio of 0.22 is low, indicating a substantial net cash position and meeting the framework's 'Strong' rating threshold for a healthy balance sheet (Debt/EBITDA < 1.0x). More critically, the Free Cash Flow Yield of 8.1% is robust and provides a significant margin of safety to cover the 2.4% dividend yield. The payout ratio based on EPS of $5.43 is a conservative 33%, well below levels that would raise sustainability concerns. However, the dividend's growth trajectory is challenged by a -7.2% year-over-year revenue decline, which pressures the underlying earnings power. While the current payout is secure, future increases would require a reversal of this top-line trend. Compared to the broader financial sector, AIG's yield is modest, often trailing higher-yielding peers like life insurers. The analysis concludes that the dividend is safe but not poised for aggressive growth without improved operational performance. Analysis based on data as of 2024-05-15.
