Read full analysis
Cigna's dividend is well-covered by its earnings and free cash flow, indicating a high degree of sustainability. The payout ratio, calculated from the provided EPS of $22.18 and a quarterly dividend of approximately $1.50, is a low ~27%, leaving ample room for reinvestment and cushion. This aligns with the Quality Indicators in the framework, which emphasize strong FCF generation and a healthy balance sheet. Cigna's FCF yield of 11.6% is robust and far exceeds the dividend yield of 2.23%, confirming the payout is easily supported by cash generation. The company has demonstrated a commitment to growing its dividend, with increases in recent years. While the 2.23% yield is slightly above the broader market average, it is competitive within the managed care sector, which often features moderate yields. The balance sheet is not a concern, with a manageable Debt/Equity ratio of 0.75, which is below the framework's cautionary threshold of 1.0x Debt/EBITDA, providing financial flexibility. For an income investor, the combination of a secure, growing payout funded by strong owner earnings and a prudent capital structure presents a favourable profile.
