GoodMoat Analysis

Based on data as of March 26, 2026

Allstate's dividend profile is favourable for an income-focused value investor, supported by a very low payout ratio, strong free cash flow, and a robust balance sheet. The current yield of 1.93% is modest relative to the sector, but the dividend appears exceptionally secure with significant room for growth.

Read full analysis
Allstate's dividend is highly sustainable, with a payout ratio of just 10.2% based on its trailing EPS of $38.06 and an annualized dividend of approximately $3.88 per share. This is exceptionally low, indicating the company retains the vast majority of its earnings for reinvestment or future shareholder returns. The free cash flow yield of 18.4% is a key strength, far exceeding the 10-15% threshold for a strong FCF margin in the investment framework, confirming the dividend is amply covered by cash generation. The balance sheet is also strong, with a low Debt/Equity ratio of 0.24, which aligns with the framework's preference for low debt and supports financial flexibility. While the dividend yield of 1.93% is below the sector average for property & casualty insurers (typically in the 2-3% range), the company has demonstrated a capacity for growth, having raised its dividend for 13 consecutive years prior to a pause during recent high-loss periods. The combination of a fortress-like payout ratio, superior FCF, and a clean balance sheet makes the current dividend very secure and provides a clear runway for future increases as earnings normalize. Analysis based on data as of 2024-05-15.
