Read full analysis
Qualcomm presents a favourable dividend profile for an income-focused value investor. The sustainability is anchored by a low payout ratio, estimated at approximately 44% based on the provided EPS of $5.01 and a quarterly dividend of $0.85 per share. This is well below a concerning level, providing a significant buffer. The 2.73% yield is competitive, generally exceeding the average for large-cap technology and semiconductor peers, which often yield between 1-2%. The company has a demonstrated history of growing its dividend, with increases typically announced annually, signalling management's confidence in the financial outlook. Critically, the dividend is amply supported by cash generation. A Free Cash Flow (FCF) Yield of 9.2% is strong and, when cross-referenced with Section 2 (Quality Indicators) of the GoodMoat framework, indicates the company generates substantial cash well above the payout. The balance sheet is also supportive, with a Debt/Equity ratio of 0.70, which is manageable and aligns with a 'Neutral to Strong' assessment under the framework's balance sheet criterion, as it is not excessively leveraged. The primary consideration for an investor is the company's moderate revenue growth of 5.0% YoY, which may influence the pace of future dividend increases, but the foundational metrics for income are solid. Analysis based on data as of 2024-05-15.
