GoodMoat Analysis

Based on data as of March 26, 2026

Dish Network's financial quality is unfavourable for a value investor, with critical weaknesses in free cash flow, growth, and balance sheet health. The company is burning cash at an alarming rate, carries significant debt, and shows no revenue growth. While it is GAAP profitable with a reasonable operating margin, the severe negative cash flow and high leverage are dominant concerns.

Read full analysis
An analysis of Dish Network's financial health reveals a deeply concerning picture. The company is GAAP profitable, with an operating margin of 12.3% and a P/E of 2.5x, which might initially seem attractive. However, this masks severe underlying issues. The most critical red flag is the free cash flow (FCF) yield of -254.1%, indicating massive cash burn that far exceeds the framework's threshold for a healthy, positive FCF margin. This suggests the business is not generating cash from its operations to sustain itself or service its debt. The balance sheet is also weak, with a Debt/Equity ratio of 1.34, indicating significant leverage that is not supported by cash generation. The framework favours a net cash position and Debt/EBITDA below 1.0x, which Dish does not meet. On growth, the picture is bleak. Revenue growth is not available, suggesting stagnation or decline, and there is no indication of a sustainable growth trajectory or drivers. The ROE of 6.8% is below the framework's high-quality threshold of 15-20%, indicating poor returns on shareholder equity. In summary, while the company shows surface-level profitability, its extreme negative cash flow, high debt, and lack of growth result in multiple 'Weak' ratings against the Quality and Growth indicators, making its financial profile unfavourable.
