Walt Disney Co (The) (DIS) Stock Analysis

GoodMoat Analysis

Based on data as of March 26, 2026

Walt Disney presents a mixed case for value investors. It possesses a strong, multi-faceted competitive moat, but its current financial quality and growth metrics are moderate. The stock appears to be trading at a deeply undervalued price relative to its GoodMoat target, warranting further investigation.

Read full analysis
Walt Disney Co operates a global entertainment empire spanning theme parks, media networks, and direct-to-consumer streaming. Applying the GoodMoat framework, the company scores highly on Moat Identification. It exhibits a powerful brand and cultural relevance (criterion 6), strategic partnerships and vertical integration through its parks and content ecosystem (criteria 4 & 7), and proprietary data and scale in its streaming operations (criteria 3 & 8). A Moat Score of 5+ is easily met, indicating a durable competitive advantage. This passes the first gate of the Decision Framework. However, the Quality Indicators present a more nuanced picture. While the balance sheet is reasonable with a Debt/Equity of 0.38, other metrics like a 5.2% YoY revenue growth and an 11.2% ROE are adequate but not indicative of a high-quality, high-return business as defined by the framework's thresholds for strong ratings. The valuation assessment is compelling. With a P/E of 14x and a GoodMoat target of $160.28, the current price of $95.95 implies a margin of safety of over 40%, which the framework classifies as deeply undervalued. For a value investor, this creates an interesting tension: a world-class business with a clear moat is priced at a significant discount to estimated intrinsic value, but its near-term financial execution and growth trajectory require careful scrutiny to determine if it can compound capital at high rates. The analysis suggests proceeding to Step 2 of the Decision Framework for a detailed valuation and risk review. Analysis based on data as of 2024-05-15.
